How to prepare a Bill of Quantities for a Zambian project
Preparing a BOQ requires coordinated drawings and specifications, a defined measurement approach, complete item descriptions, checked quantities, a consistent work breakdown, and a documented pricing basis. The final document should be reviewed against the project scope before issue.

Confirm the information set
List every drawing, revision, specification, schedule, and instruction used. Identify missing information and state assumptions rather than silently filling gaps.
Measure and classify the work
Use the measurement rules required by the project. Group work into a consistent structure such as preliminaries, substructure, superstructure, finishes, services, and external works where appropriate.
Write complete descriptions
A description should allow a competent bidder to understand what is measured. Include material, workmanship, size, location, and associated operations where the measurement rules require them.
Price, review, and issue
Support significant rates with supplier quotations, resource build-ups, or current benchmarks. Check arithmetic, units, quantity transfers, VAT treatment, provisional allowances, and alignment with the tender instructions before issue.
